Panj Peer in Samana
About Samana & Panj Peer
History of Samana begins with the migration of Imam zade, Syed Mashhad Ali Ibn Imam Ali Riza (A. S) along with his family and followers from Iran because of political tensions with then Abbasid Caliph Ma'mun Rasheed. Samana is a unique city with a unique history that should have been the most sacred among all the shrines dedicated to Ahle bait in Indian subcontinent.
First Caravan of sadaat (Rizavi Sayyed) was arrived and settled in Samana in 9th century (300 hijri). Second Caravan of sadaat Zaidi reached India and settled in Samana in 1020 A D (400 hijri). Mehmud Ghaznavi granted fief of Samana to his mentor, Syed Abul Farah Zaidi al wasti and his sons. Third one was that when Shahab ud din Ghauri conquered India in 1192AD (588 hijri) and granted the fief of Samana to his peer o murshid, Syed Noor ud din Mubarak.
Two tragic events happened in Samana when Sayyed Jalal Uddin who executed Sikh Guru" Tegh Bahadur" at Delhi in1675 AD, was from Samana. Baig brothers who in 1705, mercilessly butchered the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh, also belong to Samana.
Then the worst tragedies started and happened for Shias of Samana. In 1710 AD Battle of Samana, Sikh army under the command of Banda Singh sacked Samana and took the revenge on the whole city, murdering all the male Shia Muslim residents of Samana. About 10,000 unarmed civilians were slain. 2 nd tragedy happened when the whole Shia population migrated to Pakistan after partition.
